Crataegus erythropoda, Ashe (C. cerronis, A. Nels.). (After No. 35.) Small tree, to 15 ft.: branchlets glabrous, purplish brown, spiny: lvs. elliptic-ovate or obovate, acute, abruptly narrowed at the base, incisely serrate and slightly lobed above the middle, lustrous and sparingly pubescent above, particularly on the veins, glabrous below, 1 1/2 – 2 1/2 in. long: corymb glabrous; stamens 5-8, with purple anthers: fr. subglobose, 1/3 in. across, brown.
