Crocus candidus, Clarke (C. Kirkii. Maw). Corm globose, ¾in. diam.; tunics of matted parallel fibers: Lvs. as high as the fl., becoming ¼in. broad, the margin ciliated and the keel very narrow: perianth-tube little exserted; segms. 1-1¼ in. long, white tinged yellow towards throat (which is glabrous), the outer ones tinged or feathered with purple on back; anthers orange, about as long as the filaments; style-branches cream-white. Asia Minor. G. 31:17. Var. luteus, Hort. Fls. yellow, more deeply colored at the base, 3 outer segms. veined and mottled with purple. CH
