Eucalyptus viminalis, Labill. Manna Gum. Plate XXXIX. Graceful tree, to 300 ft., the branchlets pendulous: bark either persistent, roughish, and dark-colored (never fibrous), or deciduous, very smooth, and grayish white: seedling Lvs. lanceolate; mature Lvs. lanceolate, acuminate, somewhat falcate: fls. usually 3, rarely 6-8, sessile or on very short pedicels; lid semi ovate, mostly short-pointed; stamens about 3 lines long; anthers ovate, opening by parallel slits: fr. subglobose-truncate, 3-5 lines across; rim flat or rounded; valves triangular, acute. May-Aug. F.v.M. Eucal. 10:10. G.cTlII. 4:597.—A hardy species, grown as far north as Chico, Calif.: ranks next to globulus in rapidity of growth. Timber not so strong as that of many other sorts but of average value for fuel, and can be grown under conditions in which more valuable species would not survive or would make only an inferior growth. A good bee tree. CH
