Read about Faba in the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture

Faba (phago, to eat; yields edible seeds). Legu- minosae. A genus established by Tournefort for certain plants now referred to Vicia. Faba vulgaris, Moench, is the horse bean, broad bean or Windsor bean, now accepted as Vicia Faba. From other groups in Vicia, it differs mostly in its stiff erect habit and the very large fleshy seeds and pods. The name Fabaceae is sometimes used instead of Leguminosae, and sometimes for the papilionaceous leguminosae. CH
