Gentiana villosa, Linn. (G. ochroleuca, Froel.). St. smooth scending, simple or nearly so, slender, 6-18 in. tall: lvs. ovate-lanceolate and obovate: fls. in crowded terminal, nearly sessile, leafy clusters, or sometimes axillary; corolla yellowish white or greenish, club- shaped, connivent at the apex. E. N. Amer. Not B.M. 1551. Var. intermedia, Griseb. (G. intermedia, Sims, not L.B.C. 3:218), may be a hybrid between this and G. andrewsii. It resembles G. ochroleuca in having calyx-lobes of unequal lengths, but as long as or longer than the calyx-tube, and free anthers: it resembles G. andrewsii in the tinge of purplish blue. B.M. 2303. Var. incamata, Griseb. (G. incamata, Sims), B.M. 1856, from Carolina is not cult. These forms are not considered worthy of varietal rank in Gray's Syn. Fl. CH
