Iris aphylla, Linn. (I. bohemica, Schmidt. I. hungarica, Waldst. & Kit. I. furcata, Bieb. I. falcata, Tausch. I. fieberi, Siedl. I. nudicaulis, Hook. I. benacensis, Kerner). Lvs. glaucescent, 6-12 in. long: st. equaling the lvs., sometimes forked low down, leafless: spathe-valves greenish, tinged with purple: fls. dark lilac; outer segms. obovate-cuneate, 2-2 ½ in. long; beard white; inner segms. broader, obovate. E. Eu. B. M. 2361, 5806. B.R. 801. L.B.C. 20:1970.— The plant commonly cult, as I. gracilis is probably I. aphylla.
