Larix sibirica, Ledeb. (L. europaea var. sibirica, Regel, and var. rossica, Regel). Tree, to 120 ft., with straight slender stem and rather short ascending branches: branchlets yellow: buds grayish brown and dark brown or nearly black at the base: leaves linear, 1-1/2 in. long: pistillate flowers usually green, sometimes whitish or brownish: cones ovate-oblong, usually 1 1/2 in. long; scales fewer and larger than in the preceding species, finely tomentose on the back, half-spreading at maturity. N. E. Russia to Siberia. CH
