Lilium odorum, Planch. (L. Colchesteri, Hort. L. col- chesterense, Wallace). Bulb globular, 2-3 in. diam., white or pale yellow: st. smooth, 1-3 ft. high, glaucous-green, spotted purplish brown, darker at the base: leaves 12—20, horizontal or semi-erect, 3—4 in. long, 2/3 - 1 in. wide, glaucous-green, tinged brown when young: flowers usually solitary, sometimes 2-3 together, 6—8 in. long, nearly as wide, with waxy segms., golden yellow inside, fading to creamy yellow, while the outside is tinged reddish brown; anthers reddish brown; the fragrance is rich and delicious, similar to that of the Cape jasmine. July to early Aug. Japan, Korea and China. — A lily of many names, often confused with L. Brownii, L. japonicum and so on. It is quite rare, but is of easy culture, both in pots and open ground. CH
