Pentstemon Cobaea, Nutt. Fig. 2864. Straight and erect, stout, about 2 ft., minutely pubescent: lvs. thick, ovate- oblong to oblong to broad-lanceolate, the upper ones clasping: infl. mostly simple and open; fls. very large, reddish purple to white, the base very narrow but the upper part of the fl. broad and open, the limb only obscurely 2-lipped; sterile filament bearded. Prairies, Mo. and Neb., south. B.M. 3465. Gn. 49:406. G. 29:83. F.S.R.2, p. 271. Mn. 4:113.—Very showy, and probably one of the parents of the garden race of hybrid pentstemons (see No. 13). CH
