The tree has been the [[Pennsylvania]] state champion since 1950. It was planted in 1856. The central trunk was cut off in 1895, resulting in a tree with multiple spires.<ref name="tyler">[http://www.tylerarboretum.org/painter_trees.htm painter_trees.htm]</ref>As of 2006, its circumference is 155 inches, its height 95.4 feet, and it has a spread of 36 feet.<ref name="pabigtree">[http://www.pabigtrees.com/trees/species/sequoiadendron_giant_sequoia.htm sequoiadendron_giant_sequoia.htm]</ref> The tree may be the largest giant sequoia in the eastern United States<ref name="tyler"/>, however there is a taller one reported in Blithewold Gardens, in Bristol, Rhode Island.
