Native in the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere. Dept. Agrie., Div. Agrost., Bull. No. 20:148.—A common pasture-grass through the middle part of the U. S. Its most important horticultural use is for lawns, for which purpose its habit and aggressiveness are eminently adapted.
