Spiraea salicifolia, Linn. (S. sibirica, Raf. S. salicifolia var. carnea, Ait.). Upright shrub, 5 ft. high, with terete yellowish brown branches puberulous when young: lvs. oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate, sharply and sometimes doubly serrate with often incurved teeth, 1 1/2 – 3 in. long: fls. light pink or whitish, in oblong, dense, tomentulose panicles leafy below, the lvs. exceeding the ascending ramifications; stamens twice as long as petals; sepals upright in fr.: follicles ciliate at the inner suture. June, July. S. E. Eu. to Japan and probably Alaska. R.F.G. 24:152. G.W.H. 82. Var. grandiflora, Dipp. (S. grandiflora, Lodd.). Lower, with larger, lighter pink fls. L.B.C. 20:1988. CH
