Idesia polycarpa (Iigiri Tree) is a medium-large, deciduous, dioecious tree generally reaching a height of 9-12 meters (30-40 feet). It is native to China, Taiwan, Korea, and the Ryukyu Islands.

The bark of I. polycarpa is a smooth gray. The leaves are large and heart-shaped. The fragrant flowers are small and born in panicles. The fruit is an orange berry 5 to 8 mm across which persist until the following spring. It is edible either raw or cooked.[1]
