Description |
Photograph of the Template:MultiLink (Template:BioLinkSpecies) at the Tyler Arboretum (where it was identified). The tree has been the Pennsylvania state champion since 1950. It was planted in 1856. The central trunk was cut off in 1895, resulting in a tree with multiple spires.[1]As of 2006, its circumference is 155 inches, its height 95.4 feet, and it has a spread of 36 feet.[2] The tree may be the largest giant sequoia in the eastern United States[1], however there is a taller one reported in Blithewold Gardens, in Bristol, Rhode Island.
