Calanthe Sophiae, Hort. Habit medium to strong: growths with 3-7 Ivs. and 1-3 ft. high; blade elliptic, acute, undulate, 12-18 in. long, rich bright velvety green with a bright yellowish green channeled midrib above, light red below; petiole erect, rigid, covered with soft tomentum; sheath extending from one-third to one-half the length of the petiole, upper part terete.—Closely allied to C. nigricans.
