Anemone fulgens, Gay (A. Pavoniana var. fulgens, DC. A. hortensis, Thore). Fig. 203. One ft. high, simple: basal Lvs. 3-5- lobed, with rounded outline, followed later by deeply cut Lvs.; involucre sessile, several in. below the solitary fl.: fls. vivid scarlet, 2 in. across; stamens black. May, June. France. — Sometimes called a variety of A. hortensis, Linn., from which it may have descended. Several garden forms, as A. annuàta-grandiflöra, A. multipétala, and Southern Star. Gn. 11:214. Gt.37:66. R.B. 21:262-3. R.H. 1877:270. G. 4:91.
