Zanthoxylum schinifolium, Sieb. & Zucc. Shrub or small tree, to 20 ft.: lvs. 3-7 in. long, glabrous; lfts. 13-21, elliptic-lanceolate to lanceolate, narrowed into a short stalk, minutely emarginate at the apex, crenate-serrulate, 3/4 – 1 1/2 in. long: fls. minute, with sepals and petals in terminal short-stalked clusters, 2-4 in. across: fr. greenish or brownish. June; fr. in autumn. Japan, Korea.—Sometimes cult. under the name of the following; handsomer in foliage and hardier.
