Phalaenopsis amabilis, Blume, not Lindl. (P. grandiflora, Lindl.). Fig. 2887. Lvs. long, pale green: fls. variable in size, sometimes about 5 in. across, pure white with stains of deep yellow and a few purple spots on the labellum and on the column; dorsal sepals ovate to oblong, lateral sepal lanceolate; petals rounded-fan- shaped; lateral lobes of the labellum obliquely cuneate, incurved, middle lobe very narrow with yellow cirrhi. Fls. intermediate between the parents, 4 1/2 in. across; sepals and petals pale yellowish white, suffused and dotted with amethyst-purple toward the base; labellum crimson with an orange crest; cirrhi slightly developed.
