Hibiscus tiliaceus, Linn. (Paritium tiliaceum, Juss.). Round-headed tree, 20-30 ft. high, sometimes a tall shrub: lvs. round-cordate and short-acuminate, entire or obscurely crenate, hoary beneath: involucre persistent with the calyx, 10-toothed or -cut: fls. 2-3 in. long, yellow: seeds glabrous or very nearly so. Fla. keys and W. Indies, but widespread in tropics and probably of Old World origin. Sprouts from the base if frozen.
