'''Idesia polycarpa''' (Iigiri Tree) is a medium-large, [[deciduous]], [[Monoicous|dioecious]] tree generally reaching a height of 9-12 meters (30-40 feet). It is native to [[China]], [[Taiwan]], [[Korea]], and the [[Ryukyu Islands]].
The bark of ''I. polycarpa'' is a smooth gray. The leaves are large and heart-shaped. The fragrant flowers are small and born in [[panicle]]s. The fruit is an orange [[berry]] 5 to 8 mm across which persist until the following spring. It is edible either raw or cooked.<ref>Tanaka. T.
