Hyophorbe verschaffeltii, Wendl. (Areca verschaffeltii, Hort.). Trunk 25-30 ft., about 6 in. diam., bulging about half way up: petiole about 3 in. long, slightly grooved on the upper surface and with a yellow band extending from the upper part of the lf .-sheath to the extremity of the blade, which is one of the chief horticultural attractions of the species; lfts. 30-50 pairs, about 2 ft. long and an inch wide: spadix as in the preceding, but the fls. orange: seed nearly cylindric, about 7/8 in. long- Mauritius.
