Iris alata, Poir. (I. scorpiodes, Desf. Xiphium planifolium, Mill.). Lvs. about 6, plane, 6-9 in. long: st. very short, 1-3-fld.: tube 4-6 in. long; outer segms. 3-4 in. long, obovate-cuneate. bright lilac, variegated with white, and having a yellow keel down the claw; inner segms. obovate-unguiculate, spreading from the base of the outer; style-crest large, lacinately toothed.
