Juglans nigra, linn. black walnct. Fig. 2011. Lofty tree, to 150 ft., with rough brown bark and pubescent branchlets: lfts. 15-23, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, appressed-serrate, glabrous and somewhat shining above at length, pubescent beneath, 3-5 in. long: fr. usually 1-3 on a short stalk, 1 1/2-3 in. across, with papillose surface; nut thick-shelled, globular or somewhat depressed, strongly ridged.
