Ladybugs are part of the Coccinellidae family of beetles, and are also called ladybirds (Britain, Australia and S Africa) or lady beetles (by some scientists). They are less commonly known as lady cow, ladyclock, or lady fly.
They are generally considered to be useful, as many species feed on [[aphid]]s or [[scale insects]], both of which are common garden pests.
