There are about 40-60 [[species]], including [[annual plant|annual]]s, [[Perennial plant|perennial]]s, and [[shrub]]s. Most originate in the drier regions of [[North America]], with some known from [[South America]]. Another often-used common name is '''falsemallows'''.
