Nov.-March. Moist, shaded parts of Trop. Mex. and Cent. Amer.—Sometimes cut, usually used for specimen plants and in masses, often used in decorations. A gorgeous plant. Var. plenissima, Hort., has the fls., or moat of them, transformed into red bracts, giving a fuller center.
