Hippeastrum stylosum, Herb. (Amaryllis maranensis, Ker- Gawl). Bulb globular, 3 in. diam., with a short neck and pale coverings: lvs. 4-6, mostly appearing with the fls., bright green, becoming nearly 2 in. wide: scape 1-2 ft., bearing 3-8 light red or flesh-colored fls. 4 in. across; perianth-tube ½ in. long; segms. oblong-acute, less than 1 in. wide, tawny pink or flesh-red; stamens somewhat exserted, the style much so (whence the specific name). Guiana and Brazil. B.M. 2278. B.R. 719. —Apparently not much cult., but it has been a parent of hybrids. Var. nudum, Worsley. Stamens much exserted and spreading.
