There is some confusion in the generic name; but the situation is: Herbertia, Sweet, 1827; Alophia, Herbert, 1838; Trifurcia, Herbert, 1840. The herbertias thrive in usual garden soils; sometimes started in coldframes; prop, by seeds and offsets.
