Corm globose, ¾ -l in. diam.: If. linear, rigid, 1 ½ -2 ft. long, overtopping the fls.: st. bearing 1-4 clusters of fls.; perianth-limb l ¼ -1 ½ in. long, typically bright red, as in B.M. 1033; G.C. III. 4:163; 50:476. Var. aurantiaca, Baker, has a slenderer habit and yellow-clawed, bright red segms. which are narrower and more acute than the type. B.M. 1612.
