Ritaia (named after Mr. Rita of the Khasia Commission). Orchidaceae. Epiphytic orchid, rare in cult.: st. much and subdichotomously branched, densely clothed with scarious sheaths: branches short and bearing a terminal sheathed, 1-2-fld. peduncle: lf. fleshy, lanceolate, jointed to the axis at the end of a branch: fls. small, puberulous; lateral sepals broad-based, adnate to the foot of the column; lip adnate by its margins to the column. One species, Himalaya. Now referred to Ceratostylis. C. himalaica, Hook. f. (Ritaia himalaica, King & Pantl). Sts. pendulous with a solitary lf. and a single terminal peduncle: lf. fleshy, linear-oblong, apex obliquely notched: fls. 1, occasionally 2, pale yellow, pubescent outside; dorsal sepal ovate-lanceolate, lateral sepals broader, abruptly acuminate; petals linear, about as long as the sepals; lip fleshy, not lobed.
