Magnolia wilsonii, Rehd. (M. parviflora var. Wilsonii, Finet & Gagnep.). Shrub or small tree, to 20 ft.: branchlets pubescent: lvs. slender-petioled, elliptic - lanceolate, rarely elliptic-ovate, acute or short-acuminate, sometimes subcordate at the base, glabrous above, densely silky tomentose beneath, 3-5 in. long: fls. white, cup-shaped, fragrant, 4-5 in. across; sepals and petals usually 9, of equal size; filaments and carpels red: fr. oblong-cylindric, about 2 ½  in. long. June. W. China.
