Philadelphus Coulteri, Wats. (P. mexicanus var. Coulteri, Burb.). Fig. 2905. Shrub, to about 10 ft.: lvs. ovate, 1 1/8-2 in. long, 3/8-3/4in. wide, obtusely to sharply pointed, on young succulent shoots and suckers, larger toothed, those of both young and old covered with rough hairs above and very white-tomentose beneath, the whole like a rough piece of felt: fls. white, very fragrant; petals with red spot at the base; calyx covered with silvery white silky hair: caps, unusually large, about 1/2in. long. States of Nuevo Leon and Hidalgo, Mex. G.F. 1:233 (adapted in Fig. 2905). B.R. 14.—Very distinct, desirable for southern latitudes, and one of the most pleasing of the genus. CH
