Spiraea watsoniana, Zabel (S. Douglasii var. Nobleana, Wats. S. Nobleana, Zabel. S. Douglasii x S. densiflora). Shrub, 4 ft. high, similar to the former: lvs. oblong or narrowly oblong, usually rounded at the base, acute, sharply serrate above the middle, grayish-tomentose beneath, 1-3 in. long: fls. light pink, in dense broadly pyramidal, tomentulose panicles 3-6 in. high; petals half as long as stamens; sepals reflexed in fr.; styles erect. June, July. Natural hybrid, found in Calif. S. subvillosa, Rydb., apparently belongs here.—A similar form is S. pachystachys, Zabel (S. corymbosa X S. Douglasii), with broader lvs. and fls. of paler pink. G.C. III. 38:322. CH
