Alberta (from Albertus Grotus, commonly known as Albertus Magnus, philosopher of the thirteenth century, who wrote concerning plants). Rubiaceae. Two species of shrubs or trees, one of which has been introduced as a hothouse or greenhouse subject. Leaves thick, opposite: fls. rose-colored or purplish, in terminal panicles; calyx 10-ribbed and 5-lobed, often colored in fr.; corolla elongated-tubular. CH
