Delavaya (after J. M. Delavay. French missionary, who explored the flora of S. W. China). Sapindaceae. A tree from S. W. China, allied to Xanthoceras, but differing chiefly in its 3-foliolate lvs. and in the much smaller fls. with a cupular disk. The only species, D. toxocarpa, (Franch. (D. yunnanensis, Franch.), is a small tree, to 25 ft.: lfts. lanceolate, serrate, glabrous, to 7 in. long: fls. about ⅓ in. across, white: fr. a 2-3-lobed woody caps, with large brownish black seeds. Reported as recently intro. but probably hardy in warmer temperate regions only. Alfred Rehder. CH
