Cornus obliqua, Raf. (C. Purpusii, Koehne). Shrub, similar to the preceding, usually broader and more loosely branched: branches purple to yellowish red: lvs. usually narrowed at the base, elliptic-ovate to oblong, dark green and glabrous above, glaucous beneath, on the veins usually with whitish or Brownish hairs, 2-3½ in. long: cyme compact: fr. blue or partly white. May, June in the S.. July in the N. Que. to Minn, and Kans. south to Pa., Ill. and Mo. S.T.S. 1:39. R.H. 1888:444 (as C. stolonifera). CH
