Eucalyptus microtheca, F. v. M. Tree, becoming 80 ft. high: bark rough, gray, persistent, or the outer layers deciduous, leaving the trunk smooth: lvs. narrowly lanceolate, 4-6 in. long: lid broad-conic; stamens very short; anthers minute, roundish, opening by longitudinal slits: fr. scarcely ¼ in. wide; valves fully half- protruding. F.v.M. Eucal. 10:6. Maiden, Crit. Rev. Eucal. 52 (figs. 16-22).—Not yet fully tested in Amer.: endures frost and heat: recommended as a forest cover for the hot dry region of the S. W.: the roots yield water to natives and travelers on the Australian deserts. Wood beautifully colored but perhaps too hard for cabinet work. CH
