Hibiscus schizopetalus, Hook. f. Fig. 1833. Tall glabrous shrub with slender drooping branches: lvs. ovate-elliptic, toothed: bracteoles minute: fls. pendulous, on long jointed peduncles, red or orange-red, the recurved petals beautifully and deeply cut; calyx tubular; stamens long-exserted: fr. long, bearing smooth seeds. E. Trop. Afr. B.M. 6524. F.S. 23:2397, 2398. G.Z. 25, p. 241.—A beautiful species, for the warmhouse; grown in the American tropics.
