Wikstroemia canescens, Meissn. (W. pauciflora, Franch. & Sav.). Small shrub, 1-3 ft. high: lvs. 1-3 in. long, thin, alternate and opposite, oblong-lanceolate: perianth 3-4 lines long: fr. silky. Himalayas, Ceylon, China. The Japanese plant is W. Ganpi, Maxim. (W. canescens var. Ganpi, Miq.); from its bark apparently is made the celebrated Japanese copying-paper.
