Lonicera involucrata, Banks (Distegia involucrata, Cockerell). Fig. 2198. Shrub, to 3 ft., with upright branches, glabrous or somewhat pubescent: lvs. ellipticovate to oblong-lanceolate, bright green, slightly pubescent beneath when young, 2-5 in. long: fls. erect, long-peduncled; corolla yellowish or slightly tinged red, viscid, pubescent, with short erect lobes, about ½ in. long; stamens as long as limb: berries black, shining, almost inclosed by the enlarged purple bractlets. May- July. Ont. to Alaska, south to Mex. B.R. 1179. B.B.(ed. 2) 3:282. Var. flavescens, Rehd. (L. flavescens, Dipp.). Lvs. light green, thin, oblong- or ovate- lanceolate, 3-5 in. long: corolla less gibbous, yellowish. Brit. Col. to Wyo. and Utah. Gt. 37, p. 7. Var. serotina, Koehne. Lvs. oblong-ovate to oblong: corolla flushed bright scarlet. June-Aug. Colo. A very striking variety on account of its brightly colored fls. Var. humilis, Koehne. Dwarfcr and with smaller lvs.
