Ribes pinetorum, Greene (Grossularia pinetorum, Cov. & Brit.). Shrub, to 6 ft., with spreading and reclining branches, without bristles: spines 1-3, 1/2in. long or less: lvs. suborbicular, thin, cordate, usually 5-cleft, with obtuse irregularly incised-dentate lobes, dull green and glabrous above, puberulous beneath at least on the veins, 3/4-1 1/2 in. broad: fls. solitary, orange-red; bracts small, ciliate; ovary bristly; calyx-tube campanulate, pilose; sepals spatulate, reflexed, nearly twice as long as tube; petals orange, only one-third shorter than the sepals; stamens as long as petals: fr. globose, prickly, purple. Ariz., New Mex.—Hardy at the Arnold Arboretum; very striking on account of the unusual orange-red color of the fls.
