Ton- shaped succulent desert plants, mostly buried in the ground, the broad aerial part covered with angular tubercles bearing no spines: fls. from the center of the plant, large, white or pink: fr. small, naked; seeds black, roughened.—A genus of 6 or 7 species confined to Cent.
