Salix gracilistyla, Miq. (S. Thunbergiana, Blume). Shrub: young branchlets tomentose, older reddish brown: stipules cordate: lvs. oblong-obovate to oblong-lanceolate, acute at both ends, serrulate, pubescent when young, later glabrous above, thinly pubescent and glaucescent below with prominent veins, 2-4 in. long: catkins cylindric, before the lvs., sessile; staminate 1 – 1 1/2 in. long, stamens 2, with connate filaments; pistillate longer; ovary pubescent with long and slender style. Japan.
