Milium (ancient Latin name of broom-corn millet which, however, belongs to a different genus). Gramineae. Millet-grass. Spikelets 1-fld., in diffuse panicles: glumes awnless, the lemma and palea coriaceous, as in Panicum.—Contains 5 or 6 species distributed through Temp. Eu. and Asia, one of which, M. effusum, also found in N. Amer., is occasionally cult.for ornament. The above text is from the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture.
