Ternstroemia (named for Christopher Ternstroem, Swedish naturalist; died 1745). Ternstroemiaceae. Evergreen trees or shrubs, adapted to the warmhouse. Lvs. leathery, entire or serrate-crenate: peduncles 1-fld., recurved, axillary or lateral, solitary or somewhat fascicled, 2 bracteoles below the fl.: sepals 5; petals 5; stamens numerous; ovary 2-3-celled (sometimes imperfectly so): fr. indehiscent.—About 45 species, warmer Asia, Indian Archipelago and Trop. Amer. CH
