Iris florentina, Linn. Rhizome fragrant when dried (orris-root): lvs. 11 ½ ft. long: st. exceeding the lvs.: fls. white; outer segms. 3 ½ in. long, tinged with lavender; claw yellowish veined with purple; inner segms. as large, white. Cent, and S. Eu. B.M. 671. Gn. 16:82; 51, p. 295. G.M.54:127. —Flowers early, with I. germanica. Hardy. var. albicans, Lange (I. albicans, Lange. I. florentina var. alba, Hort.). Pure white. Spain to Cyprus. var. madonna, Hort. Fls. blue; spathe-valves flushed with purple.
