Styrax obassia, Sieb. & Zucc. Shrub or small tree, 30 ft. high: young branchlets and petioles covered with a quickly disappearing floccose rusty tomentum: lvs. orbicular to broadly obovate or oval, abruptly acuminate, usually rounded at the base, remotely dentate above the middle and sometimes tricuspidate at the apex, glabrous above, pubescent beneath, 6-10 in. long: fls. fragrant, in racemes 5-7 in. long; rachis glabrous; pedicels and calyx finely tomentose; corolla 3/4 in. long, with slightly spreading obovate-oblong petals: fr. 3/4 in. long, ovoid, pointed.
