Perennial: sts. tall and pilose, freely branched: lvs. covered with velvety, appressed hairs; st.-lvs. clasping, broadly oblong, lobed and serrate; radical lvs. oblong, long-petioled: fls. 2 in. across, brick- red and showy, corymbose-racemose; petals roundish, repand: caps, glabrous, oblong-club-shaped; stigmatic ravs 6-7.
