Centaurea dealbata, Willd. Perennial: sts. sub-erect, 8-24 in. high: lvs. white-villous beneath, glabrous above, the lower ones 1-1 ½ ft. long, petioled, pinnate, the obovate lobes coarsely cut-toothed or auricled at the base; st.-lvs. sessile, pinnate, with oblong-lance lobes: fl.-head solitary, just above the uppermost lf.; fls. red, those of the disk rosy or white; outer scales of the involucre with lanceolate tips, the middle rounded, deeply fringed, ciliate.
