Tecophilaea cyanocrocus, Leyb. (sometimes written T. cyanocrocea). Scapes 1-3, erect, 3-6 in. high, 1-fld.: lvs. 2-3, linear-canaliculate and undulate: fl. azure-blue with white throat, about 1 1/2 in. long, with a narrow tube and obovate segms. G. 37:183. R.H. 1900:70. Var. Leichtlinii, Hort., has fls. deep blue with no trace of yellow; said by some to have a white center. Var. Regelii, Baker (not known to be in the trade), has longer peduncles, longer and narrower scarcely undulate lvs., and narrow oblong segms. Species hardy at New York City in protected places, but usually the plants do not thrive more than a year or two; they ought to do better farther south. Blooms very early in spring. Fls. violet-scented. CH
